Teak Deck Questions

Wondering how much old caulking needs to be removed before sanding the channels and piping in new caulking? Must it be completely voided or is some leave behind natural?

Re: Teak Deck Questions

Remove it all.

If you don't, when you apply new caulk, it won't adhere as well and you'll be left having to do this far sooner than you want.

Re: Teak Deck Questions

There is a power tool that will make quick work of Sika flex. Can't remember the name at the moment. But yes remove all of it.

Re: Teak Deck Questions

It's impossible to entirely remove it all. But the cleaner the better.
Are you using 2 part caulk to seal it back up?
Grinding a good chisel to the matching width helps with removal.
