Surveyor for BVI needed

I searched the forums and boat US looking for a surveyor in BVI or a surveyor who will travel there. The one thing those do not give me is opinions on them. As of now BVI is not scheduled to open until after September 1st. This is my first boat purchase and would like to be there to learn. I am looking for someone you all would trust with your boat. Names, advice, and contact info is all welcome.

Thank you!

Re: Surveyor for BVI needed

Highly recommend Geoff Williams.
Used him to survey my 44ft. cat in Tortola.
Very professional and through.
I have used many surveyors and was very pleased.

Do not use the surveyors based in Nanny Cay, if they're still there. They surveyed my Westsail 32 in 2002, charged $500 and missed serious spider web cracks and nuts with missing bottom halves on the old 316 turnbuckles, on the rigging.

Should I consider someone from USVI or Puerto Rico instead?

Geoff will do an excellent job. Don't worry that he is based at Nanny Cay, either.

Re: Surveyor for BVI needed

There are buyer's surveyors and seller's surveyors; I've had several boats surveyed in the BVI and would recommend Michael Hirst and Steve Davis at https://hirstmarine.com/

Re: Surveyor for BVI needed

I see 2 solid recommendations...Both closed at the moment.

Are there any other current STRONG recommendations for a Leopard catamaran? I need not only a survey, but a facility that can affect repairs if needed.

My buyer's broker suggests an "in water" survey in St Thomas ( boat location) and then a haul out in Tortola. I don't see the logic in that and would rather get it all done at once during haul out in the BVIs.

I also would like any input as to where I should get equipment installed such as radar and AIS. I'm guessing St Martin. Any suggestions or advice welcome.

Thank you for your response.

PLEASE consider flying a surveyor in!

I have seen some horror shows and heard of even more. I no longer deliver vessels from a Grenadian broker after the cluster of a survey that was done.

Thanks.....not a bad idea. I have heard that there could be some be some issues with a local surveyor that may have (ties) with the Moorings.

Fortunately I'm not buying from them so was hoping I could find a good thorough independent surveyor.
