Suggestions for jib furlers
Hey guys. new here...
Looks like my Profurler (likely original from 1992) has seized up. I will attempt to rebuild it. But also considering a new one.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a reefable jib furler?
I've looked at Harken, Profurl, Hood H325, Selden 304s... I'd like to see what else is out there I'm not aware of.
Thanks all!

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
Don't have a recommendation on an alternate, but we just re-built our 1999 ProFurl. The bearings are/were a standard industrial product/size, I pulled the old ones, took them to a local bearing shop and they were able to get me all the bearings and seals (drum and swivel) for under $100. Furler spins like a dream now.
On the other hand, if you need new plastic bearing sleaves (for inside the section joiners on the wire) or new section joiners for an old ProFurl - well, good luck.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
I loved my Schaffer on my last boat. Boat a 2100 for my 36 foot boat. Built solid and good looking too. It is what I will buy when the time comes unless something new proves better.
Good luck

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
Look at single line curlers. Coliglio or something like that.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
I also have a Schaefer 2100 model for 36 foot boat. Installed myself with mast up 15 years ago and have had zero issues

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
I recently bought a 49' cruising boat that had a Furlex 304S installed for a staysail. I don't think it was ever used because the staysail on board is a hank-on sail. I prefer a lever release for my staysail and will be removing the Furlex 304S this week. I'll give you a very good deal on this "like new" furler.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
n = number of different furlers made
Answers to the "which furler" question is n + at least one.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
We put 40,000 nm on our Schaeffer 3100 and nary a problem. Very well-made unit.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
I rebuilt a Seafurl once; not bad.
Sail Delmarva: Hood Seafurl 800 Bearing Replacement
Whether you can roller-reef largely depends on the sail. Padding in the luff helps, and it works better on sails with a high foot and long foot. Blade jibs, not so much. Finally, you will probably need to move the lead forward, possibly quite a lot.

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
you might want to check and make sure the furler can be reefed..some can some cannot.
we had to replace forestay furler..Furlex Type C.. we went with a 304S series.
mobern, If I had known...I would have made you an offer..

Re: Suggestions for jib furlers
Get yourself an ALADO no pesky bearings to fail and a lifetime guarantee. Also, probably one of the cheapest furler's available on the market. Easy to install and nothing to fail.
