Steel Adventurer Sailboat Trawler

Being an engineer with a seat of solidworks 3D CAD and 40 year fisherman/sailor, I have long thought of building a boat I can take off in. This would be steel vessel that would have the shape of a sailing hull of length of about 70 feet. It would have a bow thruster, pretty large main diesel engine and diesel generator. I pilot house would be used with a helm station inside and then removable plates on the top of the pilot house and floor of the pilot house so that the engine and generator could always be pulled to be serviced or replaced. I would integrate in a fish hold and other commercial fishing gear so that it could be used for fishing. Double long keels would be used under the hull so that the boat could also be beached in large tidal areas for servicing of the bottom. It would be a cutter rig with an aluminum mast and swept back spreader rig.

Thinking I would design it all up and create drawings and build plans. Then create a web site that discus's the project and then look for funding to build say 2 or 3 of them, and they could be built at my work JTmarine.com and launched via our cranes or our 1200 ton dry dock.

This would be a boat I would do adventure cruising on to Alaska, Canada, and around the world. The onboard systems would be such that the boat could be made very self sufficient.

Re: Steel Adventurer Sailboat Trawler

Nice, wife, kids and I went down and saw that boat when it was in PDX. If I were just doing this for myself I would think about creating a campaign to just buy one. But I am also doing this to create design for JTmarineinc.com. They are good at building boats. If I found some founding and we successfully built a couple, some others around the world might be interested in JTmarineinc building more.
