St. Petersberg Boat Yard
Can anyone recommend a diy boat yard in the St. Pete-Tampa area?

Last I heard Sailors Wharf won't allow DIY.
Right next door is Salt Creek Marina, where I've had my boat hauled twice. They allow DIY. If you have them do the bottom painting, they probably won't charge for lay days until they finish and you can do whatever else needs to be done.
The only other place with DIY I know of in St Pete is in the same area and also goes by Salt Creek something. I think their lift is a little smaller and yard space smaller.
Suggest you drive over if possible and talk to them both.

There are some in tarpon but daily rates are expensive and they don't permit work on weekends. Cheapest I've seen is Hernando beach of you can make it. Haulout costs are the same but daily rates are a third.

Cortez Cove Marina
Cotez Cove Marina, Bradenton, is a great yard and allows DIY. I let them prep and paint the bottom because they do a better job than I do. Location is within 3 hrs boat ride of Tampa Bay and worth the trip. Turn to port (southbound) after the Cortez bridge and follow channel around Coast Guard station.

I wonder if they sell hambergers in St. Petersberg? Or maybe I'm better off in Pittsbergh?

I can tell you one to avoid, and why (BIG mistakes they made, not little things). It's not anyone from here.
Knothead has proven himself here as a fine individual. You might email him and find out where his boatyard is.

Re: St. Petersberg boat yard
Salt Creek Marina. It's the only DIY yard in St. Petersburg. The phone is 727-895-4481. The manager is Allen. Once you get there, the "go to" guy is Josh.
I've been hauling out there for 25 years with nothing but positive results, but then I do it myself. They only haul, pressure wash and block up the boat. Their only requirement is that you buy your bottom paint from them. I've found their price is as low as anyone's and no shipping costs so don't fret over that.
My mast is there for another month or so as I repaint it. I can help you make arraignments if you like.
Yours,
Dennis

The yard where my shop is located is not a DIY yard. But it's right next door to Salt Creek Marina. We do pretty much all the crane/rigging work for SCM and have a very good relationship with them.
Jim Bradford has retired, but Allen, Anna and crew are good people.
The only other DIY yard in the immediate vicinity was Salt Creek Boat Works, but they are no longer in business.
I believe that there is at least one DIY yard on Gandy Blvd at the north end of Tampa Bay. I think it's called Noa.

Jim retired! I'm sorry to hear that. He was a real asset to the yard!

Rakuflames: I am searching for a yard in St. Pete to repair a broken strut on a 1983 Hunter 31. I would love to know who NOT to send it to. I've just joined the forum, and apparently do not yet have the capability to send a PM.
If anyone else feels kind enough to PM rakuflames on my behalf as a backup, I would appreciate it. I recognize this is an old thread, and it also appears that rakuflames has not posted in a while, but I don't want this repair screwed up.
