Spinnakers

I've seen a lot and, while some are colorful, none of them have the boat's name or logo on them. People put them on the jib, but never on the spinnaker. I always wondered why.

Is it considered tacky to put your boat's name or logo on your spinnaker?

I imagine it has more to do with the fact that most people don't use their Spinnaker all the time. You always use your jib..

Re: Spinnakers

Spinnaker cloth is a different material. The nylon usually used is stretchier than jib cloths, so the image may become deformed. The spinnaker is also so baggy that it could be more difficult to get the image transferred properly onto the sail. The paints or dyes that are used can also have differing effects on the cloth, so may cause it to deteriorate, or not behave the same as untreated cloth, so it might cause tears.

Re: Spinnakers

Most sailmakers will let you design a spinnaker such that each panel can be any color you wish.

And some let you put whatever you want on it.

Not so much tacky as unnecessary and additional cost, PHRF numbers are most commonly seen.
