Some Really Great Contributors Here

While reading the September 2012 issue of 'Ocean Navigator' I came across an article on 'Fire Fighting Gear'. I found the article extremely informative and a seldom discussed topic on boating forums. At it's conclusion I was pleasently surprised to see that it was written by one of the members of Cruisers Forum, Mr John Kettlewell. Although he is not the only well known boating personality to frequent this Forum, I felt it important to point his article out for fellow CF'ers who may not subscribe to 'Ocean Navigator'. The wealth of knowledge available to members on 'CF' because folks like Mr Kettlewell take the time to post is another reason I enjoy reading 'CF'.

The other reason being that some posters (David of Jersey, Boatman61, amongst others!) have a great sense of humor no matter how heated a topic may become. That kind of takes the 'edge' off of a debate and allows it to regain it's course often times. It's all boating whatever kind someone does be it power, sail, or human powered, to each their own. We're fortunate to have a 'place' like 'CF' to all come together to share, laugh, and commiserate the owning of a boat.

Take a minute to read the article on 'Fire Fighting gear' by Mr Kettlewell, I believe you'll find it worth your time.

Thanks guys ... appreciated!

I also need to say, the CF is a great place to learn and ask participants for opinion or advise. Thank you to all who share their knowledge and experience ...

I think all of us learn a lot here. Thanks everyone!

For example, I never thought to break out the champagne when stuck aground, like someone suggested in another thread. I'll have to try that next time.

Actually Boatman61 I'm the one who would gladly buy you (and the majority of posters here) dinner on me.....Just not all on the same day I always ask folks if they participate in any forums when I meet them while boating. The one's I've enjoyed company with have had some splendid meals on me

Most folks here are agreeable company, some may need a bath, but they 'clean up well' as we used to say back in the day

I've been reading/lurking here for years just not posting because I was boatless, and did not feel the need to chime in until I was almost 'aboard' my next one.....getting close....narrowed it down to 5 specific ones and the hunt is on!

I realize as I become an older sailor and the years advance I tend to cheer on the younger sailors and encourage them to sail onward to new horizons.

Mr Kettlewell, it's not the first of your writing that I have been fortunate enough to read. The kind words don't do justice for the knowledge you share within the boating community. The pleasure is all mine....dinner and drinks go with the first handshake when we meet in person.

Oh yes! Going aground in New England is such a common occurrence in the coastal bays, that some of us grew up with the tradition of 'break out the party until the tide turns'.....Look for me 'fetched up' on some sand bar between NJ and RI during the Summer Being Italian it's my 'thing' to feed and make welcome all 'rafters'
