Thanks for the link Travelerw. Interesting article and I stand corrected.

It is important to thoroughly test whatever system you plan to use for emergency de rigging. I was dumping on bolt cutters because when I finally got around to testing the set that I had carried on my previous boat for ten years, I was astonished at how ineffective and hard to use they were. I bought a set of hydronic sheers and they were much easier and faster to use, in a test situation anyway.

So yeah, whatever device you use, it is a great idea to give it a serious workout before you really need it. I guess that is true for all emergency gear.
