Solo Circumnavigation
So I'm in the process of reading Jessica Watson's book "True Spirit". How incredible what she did. A 16 year old girl 210 straight days on the ocean sailing solo, nonstop, and unassisted 22,000 miles around the world and rounding Cape Horn. She had quite a boat, a S&S 34.

Re: Solo Circumnavigation
There are a couple of fairly well known Australian women who also did it: Kay Cottee, and
the Grandma who sailed her Folkboat around the world. In addition, there's Julia from "Greshan", who built her own steelie, and did it.

Re: Solo Circumnavigation
Webb Chiles.........But I suppose he wouldn't want to be " pigeon holed" as a cruiser. 5 circumnavigations and planing his 6 th in a Moore 24, he's the "man" !

Robin Lee Graham's adventure written about in National Geographic and his book Dove influenced me at an early age. Of course no one can compare to Slocum.

Re: Solo Circumnavigation
If my kid wanted to sail around the world, I would suggest that they stop and see places.

Re: Solo Circumnavigation
There's the local hero round here, Jon Sanders - triple navigation. More mad than anything else. But for my money, Moitessier, he's the rockstar, just for blowing off the Golden Globe.
Oh the list.. Jessica Watson is the pick, a 16 year old schoolgirl rounding Cape Horn, gotta love that..

Re: Solo Circumnavigation
I was always impressed by Aebi.
She sailed a marginal boat and it was pre-GPS era. I am not sure I could do today what she did back then.

She hooked up with a guy in the Galapagos and 3/4 of her circumnavigation was buddy boating with her boyfriend (later husband).
daddy flew out to fix the engine in numerous ports.

She didnt complete a circumnavigation, and she was imho just a media event.
At least the ever decreasing age of circumnavigators has apparently stopped before any of the chillin's were killed unlike the USA's race for children to fly acoross the USA finally killing a 7 year old 'pilot'. see attached
