Social sailors

I sail summers in NZ and winters in Queensland.
One thing I have noticed is that in Qld at around 4pm in most anchorages you will see a few tenders on the beach.
If you go ashore you will find the 5oclock bar in full social swing with all welcome.
Auckland thru to Bay of islands is my cruising area and this social activity just doesn’t seem to happen.
Some Kiwi yacht races do end up with a prize giving on the beach and a few beers.
Maybe Queenslanders like a drink more than Kiwis.
As a Kiwi sailor that likes to socialise Am I missing something.

Re: Social sailors

FerrariSailing it might be a weather issue. Drinking beer on a beach in a NZ summer doesn't sound like fun to me. We were there in December and it was cold. But here in Queensland it's always warm enough for a beer. Maybe you should start a trend. Start a YouTube channel called Kiwi Beach Boozing and become an influencer!
Cheers

Re: Social sailors

We sailed around the Hauraki Gulf, not sure where you are. Most of the boats cruising around there are locals, out for the weekend or a holiday break. As such, they’re mostly just interested in themselves and their buddy boats. Other than at places like Smokehouse Bay, beach gatherings are just not a thing there. But around the Bay of Islands, with more visiting cruisers, beach get togethers are more of a thing. Maybe you just need to make the first move?
