Yeah -- I didn't hear a word about that. there was nothing about it at either my sailing club, my old marina, or the one I moved to.

Youve gotta be in the net! It's a conspiracy. Only real cruisers get the info.

Try SAILMONSTER.com, local sailors in the Tampa Bay area with members world wide. The had the Marine Flea Market posted on their scheduled events. Great group to be associated with.........

You can find them in Sailing magazines I have found a lot of them in Southwindsailing Magazine.

Florida & Southern Sailing Information - SOUTHWINDS | Sailing & Cruising - Florida - the South
It's also free online and in the bait shops around here.

PPS Seriously tho,
Taking early retirement this year and plan to fit out my Centaur for long term cruising.
Spring 2013 cruising the Irish coast to get a bit more experience of living aboard, if all goes well, a slow coastal cruise into the Med before winter set in. Going it alone as the missus dosn,t sail tho she,s interested in visiting if I,m staying put for a few days anywhere nice and sheltered. 500 euro a month looks tight so am working towards all upgrades completed from a refurb budget of 5k. I,ll have a reserve for emergency/replacements so mite make a go of it.
Holding tanks and Radar plus new rigging are the most obvious and expensive items.
Anything else that would be considered essential?

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

hi centaur....yeah, i always ran into that..(the misses not wanting to sail):
and.....im early retiring at 44....moving to puerto rico.......that being said...my mind is still on la paz for consideration........it's one or the other..i've decided...think that puerto rico, being part of the u.s.a...is better for us.............however. i always ran into the missus not wanting to sail..............i had my little buddys though...now they are 10 and 13 and we cruise the puget sound every summer. living aboard is easy. just bring a couple extra deep cycles...an inverter or two (backup) and if you can grab a generator..800 watts is fine for a sailboat.......then grab a dvd player and a really good anchor chain and rode setup..you can do it on a dime!!!! cook your own meals...explore ports everyday....skiff to shore...bring a bicylce and goto town!!!
my kids mom died in a car wreck in 08...........she'd left us in 04..............i'd known her since i was 12 years old...............it was hard...............that being said...............choose your life.
you can't take her with you when you check out permanantly............
if you love something set it free...................
take care....
im having an estate sale in seattle wa.
moving to puerto rico....
living aboard till we get an apt.
and living out my life.

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

centaur.thank you for posting
ZEEEEEEEEHAG............I LIVE IN SEATTLE. I OWN A 73 CHEVY NOVA MUSCLE CAR.
A FORD F250 W/ A SELF CONTAINED CAMPER ON HER. MOTORCYCLE. A 19 FT POWERBOAT IN MY FRONT YARD AND I DRIVE A VW PASSAT...PLUS MY CRUISING SAILBOAT AT THE MARINA....
I DO IT ALL ON 480 A MONTH AND LIVE IN A NICE 3 BDRM HOUSE. W/ FULL BASEMENT.
I DO IT ON A BUDGET.......................IT'S NOT THAT HARD. WORK HARD AND BUY STUFF.
NOW MY ONLY PROBLEM IS GETTING RID OF EVERYTHING AND STARTING OVER IN A TROPICAL ENVIRONMENT....
that's the irony.....its easier to accumulate stuff than it is to get rid of it!!
if i wind up in mexico i will look you up. i was going to goto la paz. then i heard it was greener across the pond on the mainland.......and then i though...'wow, i better hit warm weather' and stay tropical...........but................in the USA. so i started researching puerto rico.
i was 'shocked'. and saddened to hear that you said that the people that can't live on 500/month are on crack!!!!!
in mexico...
it never dawned on me............@
maybe i'm neive!! (or however you spell it)
that being said....4
i hate being bugged at 711 when i goto pick up milk or bread for a dollar here and a dollar there from street bums always looking for a handout..........
probably on crack or meth or speed or whatever they call it now................
wow....is that stuff prevalent in la paz too?
that pisses me off!
it's probably everywhere! damn!
anyways. i just keep my head up and my nose to the grindstone and i love to sail and take care of my kids....
heck, yesterday we had an election. i voted....................i voted against the 'marijuana' law...............and i personally aint got nothing against it.............except i got a 10 and a 13 year old and i feel like it may be a 'gateway drug.'
thanks for the heads up centaur.

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

there is not that much of the street stuff found in usa -- it is pleasant her ein mexico-- affordable and anchoring is good. is easy to live here for cheap--those hving problems here living on less are doing things that cost real money.
foods are very inexpensive. marinas are pricey in winter, or high season, and cheaper in summer, when it is hot. air conditioners are cheap.
there i smuch more greenery in summer --and mainland south of mazatlan is greeen in summer, slightly less so in winter, when there is no rain. us mail arrives here with a small delay, ona lame 2 legged donkey and is delivered by a fella on a motor bike--is cool here--la cruz is a lovely town--there are many lovely towns in mexico with small populations and low prices. friendly and helpful people who are most honest..best way to find rental property here is to be here....there is a hotel over restaurant named la cava--rooms from 200pesos--under 20 dollars per night, an di was advised they are nice rooms..

Wow, do you really read messages, or just assume you know the topic being discussed?

The current focus from the magazine websites were about nautical flea markets. They are listed there, where people can find them.

How would you find out about the nautical flea markets?

At no time did anyone advertise, or suggest a person pay for a subscription.

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

the best nautical flea markets are not in GLOSSY rags, but word of mouth. ye kinda have to be in the area with a vhf radio. in usa, many flea markets are written up and advertised in glossies-but i have had less than good luck finding realistically priced items at those.
