shipwrights in Darwin?

Does anyone know of or could possibly recommend any shipwrights in the Darwin (Aussie) area? I'll be replacing a bunch of spars there in a couple of months.

Would also be useful to know if anyone knows if there's an native Aussie wood similar to Douglas Fir.

Can I recommend a publication we have in Australia called Ship 2 Shore. It is a book compiling a comprehnsive listing of marine services throughout Australia and parts of the Pacific.

It is available online at www.ship2shore.com.au.

We don't have a native timber that would be the equivalent of Douglas Fir, most timber spars are made from Oregon which is probably the same speicies of tree (or a very close relative). It is usually easily available where I am - Sydney. Not sure of the availability in Darwin.

When ordering, be sure to ask for either select or clear grade; this is the highest quality, and should not have knots, gum vein or other imperfections.

I am in the cabinetmaking/joinery business and am happy to assist further with making some enquiries through our supplies if you can give me an idea of sizes and quantities; they may have a branch or agent in Darwin that could assist.
