Shipping a yacht
Hi All, We are considering shipping yacht options from Europe to NZ, a daunting task as we are home in NZ. I am interested to hear others who have experiences to share. Contract requires removing all valuables onboard OMG! Is this essential? Stay safe everyone.

Re: Shipping a yacht
I have been a fair few years out of the gamne of shipping and now just do sailing but there are still Container ships and there is still a Ro/Ro service available and shipping Yachts is not a difficult thing at all.
One of the Ro/Ro carriers is Wallenius Wilhelmsen , they just roll your yacht on board.
In my time we shipped yachts to AKL but as i said i am a few years out of this game.
I suggest you contact one of the European freight Forwarders in AKL. DB Schenker , Danzas, DHL or Geodis Wilson and there are others , they can arrange this even in todays New World.
Good Luck

https://www.yacht-transport.com/schedules/
I used them 20 years ago. Float on/float off makes for some savings in prep. Back then, their pricing was all over the place, different quote each time I called.

Re: Shipping a yacht
I think it depends how big your yacht is. If it can fit into a container, then it is much cheaper. Earlier this year, I was preparing to buy a large boat in Sweden and have it shipped to the US. For a 52' sailboat, on a bulk freighter, they were going to charge ~35kusd to ship it across the Atlantic. I contacted as many shipping companies as I could find, but only got that one response. From Europe to NZ, I would guess that would have been double that. What size boat are you looking to ship?

I wondered which forwarding/shipping services contact do you have?
I have quoted Peter & May as well as Seven Seas, lets say Seven Seas representative in our East Asia region wasn't so good.
I can do without boat shipping specialist though.

Re: Shipping a yacht
I was dealing with Seven Seas here in the US. They were responsive and very patient with their time. As I implied, that deal did not end up happening, and I ended up not using their services, so I don't know how the experience would have actually turned out in the end. But in the dealings I did have with them, the experience was favorable.

They weren't firm on schedule, and urge me to pay upfront, the local region person does all the dealings and say I am not so confident on that.
Peter & May is more credible and transparent about their charges and schedule, but a lot of unnecessary fees like Divers etc add in.
Would like to know which other service providers are available so I can contact them.
(Can DM me if not appropriate to discus on open topic)
Wallenius Wilhelmsen seemed to be an option, will send a rate request.

Re: Shipping a yacht
Seven Seas is the only outfit that I dealt with. All of my other requests for quotes went unanswered. From my research and from dealing with them, it seems like most of the "shippers" are middle men that are arranging deals with bulk cargo vessels. They definitely seemed to want a deposit as soon as possible, while the scheduling remained pretty flexible.
