Liz, I bet that they'll use the same methods that bare
boat charter companies use to vet their customers... and we all know that these methods are fool proof. Spending a few weeks sailing in an area with lots of charterers is a good way to evaluate the success of the system (ho,ho).
While I can sympathize with the organizers, I can't see it succeeding. I know for absolute fact that I would NEVER consider such a swap. I value my
boat too much to put her in the unsupervised hands of a stranger, no matter how many
ASA classes he had taken! And for that matter, I wouldn't like to take the responsibility for some strangers strange boat, even though I feel that I am a pretty competent cruiser...
boats are too complicated these days, and too variable in form and function.
A well meaning but futile effort IMO.
