Searching for Overdue Catamaran

Hi All,

Some friends and I are looking for any information concerning a Dean 40+ foot catamaran named "Voyager". They left Burnt Store Marina in Punta Gorda, FL on, or about, 5 Feb, 2021 enroute to Key West, then St. Croix via PR. They're intent was to sail straight through to St. Croix. They have two additional crew on board for a total of 3 males and 1 female. Owners name are Pete and Jill. Great people. Vessel is white with blue trim and sail cover. We have no pictures. Please reply if you have seen them. Last contact was on 7 Feb, while they were sailing around Key West and had cell reception.

Do they have AIS? Do you know their MMSI #?

They're almost 3 weeks overdue. Have the authorities been alerted? Have their been any bad weather events? Any known contact with family members?

Re: Searching for Overdue Catamaran

According to Vesselfinder, Voyager is in Ft Lauderdale as of today (1 minute prior to this post).

https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels...MMSI-338237526

A couple of hours ago their AIS had this vessel in the keys around Plantation Key on Jan 21st. Possibly someone read the thread and turned their AIS on or it's a different boat.

Based on their track since Feb 19th, they're at anchor.

Well, I hope you can figure out which "Voyager" it is. The name is not rare.

Re: Searching for Overdue Catamaran

The Voyager in Ft Lauderdale appears to be a leopard 47 (16m) according to the Photo on Marinetraffic.com The MMSI # is a US domestic # so isn't usually associated with boats traveling outside of the US. It looks like it came down the east coast in November, so I doubt it's the missing boat.

If possible look for credit card activity.

Once my Wife freaked when I went missing for a week, out of radio contact.

She gave Canadian CG our numbers and they ran the card looking for activity. I had bought something in a tiny outport so they knew I was kicking around where I said I would be.

And that, my friends, is how I came to have a sat phone.

Re: Searching for Overdue Catamaran

There are not three weeks overdue, it’s 16 days out of contact,
did they give an estimate on when they expected to arrive.
Were they making a quick delivery voyage, or did they intend to stop and smell the roses.

How long would a leisurely trip from Florida to st croix take, I’ve no idea.

Hopefully they are enjoying a few pina colladas or cobra libra. Just haven’t thought to call yet.

Hope for the best.

Re: Searching for Overdue Catamaran

Hi all. Thank you all for the wonderful ideas thoughts and questions! This is truly a great forum! Our friends have been located. Apparently they had a severe rig issue happen in the central Bahamas making them turn around and slowly work their way bad to eastern Florida. They contacted us yesterday late afternoon as they got into cell range 10 miles off the Florida coast. Making their way to Harbortown Marina for repairs.

This is why we have AIS on our boat and carry an InReach gps.

Re: Searching for Overdue Catamaran

If too stingy to buy an AIS or Sat phone they could use "On Course" app on their cell phone. Every time they get within cell phone range it can update the boats details to "Marine Traffic" and it is a free app. This even works in the Jumentos where there no AIS receiving tower but there is a cell signal. This is not a substitute for real time AIS but does let folks know where you are if in cell range.

Folks, file a float plan with someone. Just like flying. Example; we are sailing from Tampa to Key West, eta stop at Marathon 2 days, Key West in two more. Will contact you from Marathon, Key West. Not that hard, come on people.
