Not what we all wanted to hear, but this only shows the concern our community has for one of its own. Sympathies to Capngeo and the family

Re: Sailor Lost; 406 EPIRB Activated 30nm N of Key West

It's always sad when a sailor dies. But, I think a lot of us would like Jay die on board our boats rather than in a hospital bed on land. The one thing I hope the family can take solace in is that there is some closure to his disappearance. It would have been much more difficult if Jay had just disappeared.

Fair winds Sailor Jay!

Respect to the families feelings is good.... But also there is a point where knowledge can help save others lives.

Saying he was with the boat but tethered... Leads to ask the question was he in the cockpit and tethered or over the side and tethered?

When you find that information it will be important. Many people sail with tethers too long so if they fall over they hit the water... Others are short so if they fall they don't actually go over the side.

My condolences to his family and friends. I was wishing this would have simply been a great tale for him to tell us.

Hopefully there will be some type of investigation. Takes good effort to get across the stream to Cuba.

I was also heartened to see that he was tethered and had his pfd on. His family can take heart that he was single-handing sensibly.
