Sailing trip

My brother just bought a new 35' cat. We are sailing it from Tampa to Destin starting June 15th, weather permitting and planning on a 5 day or so trip so we're not in a big hurry. Any suggestions on anchorages or routes? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Sailing trip

Any particular reason to chose Destin as an end point?

My personal preference would be to head South along the coast. Pretty slim pickings once you get N of Tarpon Springs and lots of very shallow near coastal water even for a cat.

Re: Sailing trip

We're picking the boat up in Tampa (actually just south of Tampa) and "delivering" it to my brothers home in Destin. Sorry for the confusion.

Re: Sailing trip

Ah, delivering. Well, you could just head for Destin. Not a bad run in the right weather. Prevailing winds should be E-SE, so you might work your way a bit N along the coast first and then jump across with an easy angle on the wind.

June is creeping towards tropical weather season so keep a close eye on the weather. Well out of cold front season now, but getting into squally season...and they can be intense on the FL coast.

I've usually skipped the coast between Tarpon Springs and Panama City so don't know that section well, but I expect there are others here who do who can recommend shorter hops if you want to break it up.
