Sailing School

I’m trying to find a school for basic cruising. I expect to be able to earn ASA bareboat certification -
I’ve seen prices as high as 5,000!
5 thousand dollars…
for a week!
Prices seem to range from 1300 to 2400 for others. I’m looking for recommendations. In searching the web, it seems many of the schools are set up as vacations that offer the option of the ASA certifications. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Google Annapolis Sailing School, in Annapolis, MD. It's a great school and will not cost you an arm and a leg. Good luck!

Re: Sailing School

Since your that far, you may be better off doing the vacation bit at a charter operation that includes some classes.

riderjuan, not so fast grasshopper.
ASA courses are available in your area.
Of course you could always combine your lessons with a mini vacation in Cali.

Re: Sailing School

We had picked out this school before we moved to the coast. We never got there, though, since we can now get lessons without travelling.

What is your objective after you take the classes. You planning on sailing on lakes in Colorado, moving to the coast, or annual sailing charters in exotic locales?

Re: Sailing School

First off, as OutOfControl pointed out, there are schools in Colorado. You can certainly get at least your ASA 101 there, and have the sailing basics down before spending a lot of money to go somewhere else.

Second, as OldFrog75 says, you need to think about your objectives. Do you want to bareboat charter in the Caribbean? Well then, one of the schools in the BVI might be best for you. More interested in sailing the PNW? There are schools there, also.

As a more direct answer to your question, I have taken classes and chartered boats from these folks...
Florida Sailing - Florida Sailing School - Florida Sailboat Charter - Team Building, Florida Sailing, Florida Yacht, Bareboat Sailing, Florida Sailing Vacation, Florida, Learn to Sail Florida, Bareboat Charters Florida, Team Building, Sunset Cruises,

Well-kept boats, very reasonable prices, and great sailing year-around in and around Tampa Bay.

Good luck.

Re: Sailing School

Check out Blue Water sailing School
They have multiple locations and offer a combo of
ASA 101,103,104 in a week long live aboard for about 2200.00
I'm going to RHODE ISLAND in July
Should be fun and the certificates should allow me to charter
Without to many hassles
Anybody have any experience with them?

California sailing courses, Sail Education in Marina del Rey & Los Angeles | Bluewater Sailing (866.944.SAIL)

There are tons others in So Cal...

Re: Sailing School

I get the idea of a sailing school "vacation", it's damn cold here!
Any suggestion on schools I've looked at BOSS and it seems reasonable...
I'd appreciate any thoughts or reviews from y'all!

Re: Sailing School

...and thanks for all the info above.
My goal is to move to charter for a year or two for vacations and if that goes well move to a boat in about 3 years.
