There are always boats being lost, the first year we sailed through the South Pacific there were 11 boats lost and we knew several of them.
Julio was forecast to go north of the islands. Speculation was that it might vere more southerly to hit the islands but that was not the forecast.

Iselle did a direct hit on my windward neighborhood but deminished to a tropical storm before it made landfall. Power was out for 6 days. Internet service was out for a bit more than a week. Surprisingly, cell phones were up and being used nearly immediately after the storm went through. Most damage was done by fallen albizia trees but several homes were washed off foundations and destroyed by waves generated by the storm.
