Sail Savannah to Miami in 5-6 days on the outside. Realistic ?
Late November I need to get from Savannah to Miami on the outside in 5-6, max 7 days. Realize sailing on a schedule never wise..but, assuming no boat issues and reasonable weather and is that realsic ?
Thanks

With decent weather its doable in that time frame. And if you run out of time there are some places to stop and leave the boat along the way.

Size of boat? Got enough fuel to motor all the way?

Should have noted, a 45 foot catamaran... Can go around 50% of TW speed, if 45-50 off nose.
Run around 4-6 knots under engines, enough fuel for ~ 30 hours
Thanks

Re: Sail Svannah to Miami in 5-6 days on the outside. Realstic ?
If you stay in close it's about 375 miles? If so that is three days motoring 24 / 7.
You of course will have to come in every day for fuel or carry considerably more.
I assume outboards?
Anyway, I'd plan worst case which is motor, if your sure it can be done on motor only, with a cushion which I think you have, then I think it's doable, although I've never run outboards if that is what you have for that kind of distance / time. I assume they are fine doing that though?

I enjoy sailing and sail whenever I can, but if it's an absolutely have to kind of thing, plan on motoring is my only point.

The diesels are sail drives/inboards .. But only volvos 29 hp, but this cat has low drag with clean hulls.
4 - 5 average into moderate wind possible ...
Thanks....comments from anyone who has done it in similar boat type/ conditions ??

I've done the trip but in the opposite direction. Much easier with the prevailing wind and seas behind you. In my heavy monohull.

Sounds like you have the right boat to make it doable, if you pick the weather window. Stay out of the Gulf Steam and don't plan on being a smudge pot, finding fuel would be costing you a day. With 4-6kn and the Stream write us from NC.
PS, have enough crew to stand watches without nodding off.

Re: Sail Svannah to Miami in 5-6 days on the outside. Realstic ?
We did it in Dec 2012 from Savannah to WPB in 3 days when we picked up our 40ft cat. Sailed from Savannah about 100mi off shore in 4-6ft seas with 20knt winds from the SE. Went in at St Augustine because we all had some sea sickness and motored down the intercoastal. It is another day to Miami by sail or intercoastal so 5-6 days isn't a stretch unless the weather turns bad from the north.

We're having a nice northerly wind this week in Daytona. Left yet?

Went from St Augustine to Lake Worth on a 42 foot cat in 20 hours. Wind from NW at about 20 the whole way. I think with the right weather you can do it.

Re: Sail Savannah to Miami in 5-6 days on the outside. Realistic ?
Hi all
Thanks for the various advice/encouragement..
To stay away from Gulf Stream can one comfortably stay inside between it and the coast all the way.. . ?
I assume that the way, why take the time to cross over, twice ?
Thanks

Yes it will help to be along the coast out of the stream...

Here's today's snapshot of the Gulf Stream from NOAA. It'll give you some input for route planning.
