Route from Hong Kong to Vancouver, BC

Looking at buying a 52 foot trawler in Hong Kong and sailing it back to Canada west coast. What would be the recommended route to take, considering open ocean, fuel and other provisions along the way. Boat has over 1000 gal. fuel reserve. Would be a great experience.

What speed what range. Generally great circle route unless too far north, (winter) then go as far north as you think possible, sail along that latitude and then rejoin the great circle. That's the shortest route. Don't think your 1000 gallons will make it.

Re: Route from Hong Kong to Vancouver, BC

What do your engines burn per hour at cruise speed and figure your range? I suspect you will be surprised at how few miles that will be. You can extend that by a fair amount by slowing down, or by running on one engine for most of the time. it is a little harder on the autopilot , but doable. I suspect that you will need large bladder tanks to get you to your next fuel stop with a safe margin for error. I dont know if this is a new or used boat, but I would take with a grain of salt any range that a builder or previous owner says. Being a bit skeptical is better than being 100 mile short of a port and out of fuel. ______Grant.

Boat would be new with twin diesels (200hp ea.) Tests indicate 3 gals/hr.@8 knot cruise. Thought of going Hong Kong to Shanghai to Tokyo for fuel stops. From there go north towards Alaska, but unsure about fuelup locations in between. Wondered if anyone has made trip before. Weather and timing would undoubtedly be issue. Thanks.
