renting catamaran in USVI or BVI for 3 months?

My husband and I have done the bareboating thing in the BVI for 8-9 times. we are now looking to explore the possibility of buying and staying on a boat for log periods of time.

We are thinking it may be best to rent a boat for 3-6 months to see how we like it long term. Any ideas?

we want to sail around the windwards and leewards... not really interested in big ocean sailing.

how can we even find a rental for 3-6 months? all the BVI charter companies would want a fortune for that length of time.

any advice would be helpful. thank you.

Just my thought. 8 or 9 times should be enough to decide. When your trip was over were you happy to get off the boat?

I have never been happy getting off a boat. Always happy to get on the boat.

Agree to 'rent' a boat for that long cost way too much.

Chartering for a week or two at a time--even if you've done it 8 or 9 times--is a completely different thing from living long-term on a boat.

To the OP, if you find a suitable arrangement for a long-term rental/charter please report back. I'm sure there are others here who would be interested. I know that I would.

We may have to BUY a boat.

Thinking perhaps on St Thomas or St John.
