Yes you heard that right.

There is an electric barrier set up near Chicago to stop a non-native species of jumping carp from heading further north into the Great Lakes. It is required that all vessels transiting the electric barrier to be towed. The Corps of Engineers used to pay for the tow bill, but now recreational boaters will be required to foot the bill...along with the commercial traffic.

The problem will be short lived if the news article is correct. Not only doesn't the COE not have funds for the towing, the article says they do not have funds to operate the electric fences, so everything will be shut down and program unfunded means back to nature. Wonder if the jumping carp are good eating?

You should try being towed behind a bass boat in my little snark! Defending yourself can get to be a full time thing!

Carp needs be a little bigger so that the usable cuts are big enough. It is a moist wet fish, so it takes things like being smoked well. If you are going to prep it in a more traditional manner, It needs to be put on paper towels or another absorbent type bed and allowed to dry for a while on both sides for best effect.
Hung and bled like a cat, mudline removed, filleted with the skin gone, Traditional carp are some of the best eating out there. Deep fry and serve hot. Have not tried the Asian. Traditional carp fillets are preferable to some of the cheap offshore fish varieties by far.
They are not 1 pound crappie fillets, but they are good food!
