Recommendations-Companionway Grip Tape

I have a polished wood set of steps that lead down below. For 8 years I had a 1” piece of abrasive grip tape running along the forward edge of each step. Over the years the tape has drifted forward a bit and I had to finally pull it up and remove the adhesive, which was a job in itself.
Now, I’m looking for grip tape suggestions to replace what I had. Needs to be good in a marine environment, high abrasive, self-sticking to wood, and preferably tan coloured. About 1” wide should do in.
Thoughts or suggestions?

Cheers,
Eric

Well 40 years ago you would have gone to a skate board shop and bought it. Today you need an industrial flooring firm or perhaps Amazon.

Good quality tread grip tape will last a while but the best results I've had waste non slip was making my own. Simply mixed some washed course sand I got from the beach with laminating epoxy and applied it directly to the surface using masking tape to define the line. Pulled the tape as the epoxy kicked. Primed and painted to complete.

3M makes nonskid tape in rolls wide enough for USCG decks, so seems to be effective and hold well. A 3/4" roll might work for you.
