Now I am really confused, sorry. You start a thread to discuss this, then because someone says that they make a living as a writer you are relieved you didn't talk to him? What specifically in what he wrote is it that has people exercised? As near as I can tell, he quoted from Mrs. Kaufmann's blog. Is that what he did wrong? Is it because of an unsubstantiated accusation that he is a journalist intent on, well, what exactly?

Ken, IIRC the Pardey's didn't have an engine at all, and no hot water either. I'm not to sure that this in any way contributed to the issues. Could you explain what you mean by "mind boggling?"

The other thing that's causing this great " sensitivity " is that irrespective of what side your on. This incident brings up serious questions for the blue water cruising community that is made up of partners and children. This is a small group. , questions perhaps no one really wants to be in the public eye.


In fact it brings up questions maybe all of us would prefer not to deal with. Questions like what is " prepared" can partners really sail together , can you 2 hand with small kids. Etc etc
Perhaps we'd all prefer to sweep it under the carpet


Whether that's right or wrong , who can say

there was some pretty vile stuff there posted by turdnibblers,whipped into a frenzy by the media wind up merchants.

i would hate to see a new "inside" story quoted directly from cruisers forum.

another thing mr webber should be warned about by the mods is NOT including links to his spurious inflamatory quotes from the web

I think an analysis of RH and the assumptions built into ocean cruising may well be a very useful contribution to the long distance cruising community.

I think this post is very accurate. Didn't see anything else that comes closer to what I deduct from the info we got. But I would like more info before taking this as the final analysis because much can change when some details turn out a little different.

I can go on and on... but you get the idea. Now that they are indeed back safe and sound via the help of the US Navy and National Guard, I think some actual critique is in order... as they themselves... the crew of Rebel Heart, were not shy of doing to others. Maybe an honest assessment will prevent this nightmare from happening again... enough of the group hug stuff, this voyage could have had a much more tragic ending.

as far as i know it is a forum rule when quoting to include a link,also to put it in inverted commas.

apart from that if you check his profile page you will see a pattern of spurious quotes meant to inflame,provoke argument,contravening the be nice rule.
