I realized a few days ago the questions and discussions brough up here on the forum are not even thought of when talking to another cruiser..
Sat for a couple hours talking to a guy about his ventures while cruising around the world and when I got back to our home on the water, the wife asked what kind of boat does he have...
Odd thing as it didnt come up in the conversation.. Now who would have guessed that we could have shared stories of cruising for over a couple hours and the types of boats we own didnt come up..
What did come up pertaining to cruising was the holes to hide out in when the nasties blew, the little places to buy a great hamburger, The people we've meet, and the price of fuel.. but not once, was a full keel or a fin , heavy weight or light weight, production or custon, plastic or steel brought up in the conversation..
And then I realized that what you own once your cruising, dosent really mean crap.... Theres more inportant things at hand, Like where to find a good icecream cone...

Yep, you're right, Randy. Only on Internet fora do people try to inflict their own personal choices and boat/equipment prejudices on others. In the anchorages, everything is a mellow as it gets. It doesn't matter a whit what boat you own or how much money you have. And I've never heard the subject of "guns" brought up in the cockpit get togethers or the potlucks.

Yep, right on. Once cruising, that spiral notebook full of old lists, some crossed off, some not,.... just seems to melt away... you use what you've got.... and yes, now you are prioritizing fulfilling that dream of tasting a hamburger or ice cream cone again....!

Must be because they did their homework before they left and set themselves up in what could work for them.

Or maybe it's just here on this forum that all the boat manufacturer "experts" reside. I have noticed this very phenomenon in the past - that there are way too many internet experts on CF and not enough cruisers which is understandable. This specific forum serves more for entertainment than information.
When I was cruising, there was no time for such nonsense about criticizing other boats, a common theme here. We all had problems, breakdowns and maintenance regardless of the nameplate on the side.

I will recommend the ice cream in Neiafu - uphill on the right. Not that it was all that great but that we are still alive.

Also the patisserie in Rodriguez and the one in Nukualofa. And the fush'n chups run by the Chinese in Auck, NZ - the one as you come downhill before you turn left to get to Westhaven.

Well, it's true that the Cruisers Forum has entertainment value - lots of laughs, sometimes even when folks aren't TRYING to be funny ; ) - but I think there's more to it than that. I have also received a lot of practical advice, philosophical nuggets, inspiration, and valuable "information."

And another thing.... : ) I AM cruising, and I have met some other cruisers, and in my experience, cruisers diss other people's boats ALL THE TIME. Behind their backs, of course. PLENTY of time for dissing other people's boats. Good, cheap entertainment. I'm just sayin'.....

We are quasi vegetarians. Much as it is hard to say once you saw me swallowing those Chinese fush'n chups! ;-)

We found Neiafu way above our budget. Probably due to continuing supply of walking Moorings wallets.

We did dig Nukualofa though - much more affordable, and same prices for all in the market. We also loved the fact that kids in the pastry-cum-Internet cafe always made space for us so that we did not have to wait in the line -neither to the Internet nor to the delicious cakes!

When we were in the Indian it was already the piracy years and so we skipped Mayotte. This was a real bummer since they say the patisserie in Mayotte is the best in that part of the world.
