Re: Prepping?
Here is the scenario
You are the well prepared family on the block
Venezuela: Hungry Mobs Riot Over Food Shortages | Fortune
What do you do?

Your turn. What would you do?

no fantasy of time travel allowed this would be a real world issue.
It will be a real world issue within the next few years as the sun reduces outputs.
No nation will be exempt .
Just Google all the crop failures that are happening in the world now.

The prices at the supermarket suggest that we haven't quite hit a food crisis. Also, it's still a given that at least 40% of all top-grade human-ready food is thrown away in many western countries. So, there's a bit of slack in the system right now. But yes a problem is looming.
So, your family has a 6-month cushion... good. Are you also lobbying your government reps to better manage the world's food supply so that a food crisis is less likely or imminent?
Storing food, and pushing for better global food management are both useful "prepping", if you fear a global food crisis.
And you didn't say how you'd handle your hypothetical.

actually have just over a years worth on hand ( we are Mormons here)
I would quietly continue as I have always done. Growing enough to feed my family
Sorry not helping others till my own are taken care of
( fail to plan plan to fail)
and the food issue is not as rosy as you seem to think it is throughout the world.

THIS is exactly right! My family comes first before my neighbors. I wouldn't find it reasonable to feed my neighbors kids before my own were fed. This is something I find nice about the Mormon church (food storage) as well as the bishops storehouse.

bentonite like when on a plane they tell you to put on your mask then help others.
Can't help others if you are not doing good.

Our hosts report spotting the very occasional bear (most often at the dump), and they sometimes hear wolves. Even here in Toronto, we spot the occasional fox or coyote in the park behind our abode. Strangely, these predators have not yet attacked us.
I'm just wondering what it is about an apocalypse that would suddenly have them change their general behaviour, which currently includes a very healthy avoidance of us.
.... yeah... the civilization ending apocalypse. Why is it more fun to contemplate something like that, than making a world in which people can actually work and live together, even through adversity?

I was at a child's birthday party and was introduced to a couple. The man went on and on about his 5 acre lot, and the amount of guns and ammo he had. Said his house was placed so he could hear or see anyone approaching down his drive way (villains always approach from a likely position. Right?) He stated that he'd be locked and loaded before they were halfway there! And I believe he would be. My question back to him? Sarcastically voiced, "OMG!!! How often do you come under attack?!!!"
After that there was silence from him. He never answered my question. He just kinda looked puzzled.
As with all things, some take it too far.
* To ad a side note...he was stupid to be bragging about his guns and ammo to a stranger, in a setting that other strangers may have overheard. We were in a public setting.

I would have to say the guy you described did go way overboard.
Also his worst mistake was telling anyone his plans and layouts.

Exactly my point. He's an idiot. He has many guns. He feels secure, I feel less secure knowing he has many guns and is an indiscreet idiot.

Why would you worry ?
Me personaly i wouldnt waist ammo on anything but food and protection of my family ,
So its as easy as dont attack the guy with the guns ,,
People that have nothing turn nasty real quick ,
Be the family that survive have Preps ,
Again im not talking ZOMBIES ,
But i am talking natural disasters ,
Stay safe ,
