Predictwind Weather Packages

Quick question on the Predictwind

I bought the Iridium GO and I'm looking at the weather packages between the Standart and the Professional package.

The only difference is that premium shows Ocean Currents, Tidal Currents, how important is this? does it really make a difference when sailing?

Thanks in advance

Re: Predictwind Weather Packages

It depends where you are sailing- gulf stream seams important if you're in Miami. not so much around eastern Caribbean islands.

The Pro version give you a lot more, such as more than two favorite locations.

But I hate the nagging about the "Pro" package from Predict Wind. Just on the basis of their nagging I'll never buy the pro package. I do find their proprietary wind predictions pretty good, and I don't need the pro stuff they withhold in the standard package, so I go with the standard, and use it daily.

One thing I'll add: It is easy to subscribe (buy) a lot of low cost things we think would be good to have, especially when we are still working and have a nice income. But those monthly or annual fees all add up. When trying to live on a cruiser's budget you need to limit all the little monthly and annual expenses. (Iridium phone, for example)

Concur with Maine50; depends where you are. In my neck of the woods, the North Sea, familiarity at all times with tides and tidal currents is rather critical. That said, the info is in any tide almanac, including tidal currents referenced to specific harbours, and all you have to do is to interpolate. Not counting a plethora of apps for your cell phone or tablet.

Consider downloading Windalert from the link below and set up favorite default locations. It shows hourly forecast of average wind speed, wind gust speed, temperature, wind direction, sky condition and tide.

Or access the national buoy data center. provides real time wind direction, speed, gusts, wave ht, interval...here's the link for my neck of the woods.
