Port Shades

After 2+ years of living aboard full-time we realize we need to provide more sun protection on our main salon ports. As an extra plus I would love for it to provide privacy at night (with a light on in the main salon after dark you can see in as though there were no window there at all).

I am leaning toward textilene, but it only provides daytime privacy. And the Manta's wrapaound windows make this a real issue. But I definitely don't want curtains.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for a nice looking protective shade that can be installed on the inside?

Hmmm... I have never seen protective shades in a cat. Seems like everyone has curtains. Our older curtains were put on by Velcro tabs. We took them down during the day. The also had a tie so we could roll them up. I didn't like that look, so we would remove them. They had a white reflective back that really helped cut down on the heat inside. Would something like that work for you? The only other thing I could think of is to get some of that reflective, bubble wrap insulation (Lowe's has it in their insulation department). Cut that for each window and stick it on with Velcro. It would work, I am not certain about the aesthetics.

Thanks, Exposure. I am really impressed with these and will pursue it. I only have 4 windows, so I don't think it will be that expensive.

This probably would not be an option for Harriet's boat, but in the tiny head port on Sunspot Baby we used translucent contact paper that looks like frosted glass. It affixes easily, and peels off for cleaning with no residue. If you get a bubble in it when you are applying it, poke it with a pin and it flattens out.
