It is in their wake that most of us now sail.

Why I sail

We live aboard and sail as we can between preparations for early retirement and leaving forever. I think we just love the ocean--I have always been a harbor rat and transitioned from commercial fishing boats to sailing thanks to my husband--who'd a thought you could be on the water just for the fun of it?

OH MY GOD that was funny!! I was just in Newport and passed Hyannisport as well. The article couldn't be more accurate and comical.

Why cruising?

So I won't have regrets about the first two

We took up cruising because my husband loves sailing and I didn't want to retire and be bored. Cruising keeps us active and allows us to satisfy our wanderlust. Best of all, it's brought us into a community of like minded people where we have developed wonderfully strong friendships. At our age (57 & 62) making new good friends is unusual. With cruisers, it's the norm, not the exception. It's not all palm trees and fru fru drinks but we wouldn't change our lifestyle for anything.

I'm just going to say freedom and the desire to experience many different things.
