Petition for the safe harbour in Eden NSW
For any who cruise on the East coa.st of Australia:
There has been a program to build a breakwater and possibly a marina in Snug Cove, Twofold Bay NSW, at the town of Eden. The program has stalled after a significant investment in planning, reasons unclear but related to special interests or other unmerntionable considerations!
There is a petition circulating amongst interested persons with the goal of forcing action on the project.
Eden is a critical harbour for cruisers and fishermen, being the southernmost deepwater anchorage on the coast, but the existing wharfage and anchoring area is badly exposed to any E-S storm conditions. More than a few boats have been lost there in the past. The breakwall would alleviate this, and has been under serious discussion for some years now, with approval from the gov a couple of years back... approval that has had no followup.
If there is enough pressure brought to bear, progress might ensue, so I encourage all interested folks to have a look at the link below and perhaps sign the petition. I did...

Port Huon is the southernmost deepwater port on the east coast of Australia, Port Esperance is the southernmost port on the east coast of Australia while Recherché Bay is the southernmost deepwater anchorage on the east coast of Australia and Port Davey is the southernmost deepwater anchorage of Australia.
Some might argue that Mawson is Australia's southernmost deepwater anchorage but only the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France and Norway recognise Australia's sovereignty of the Australian Antarctic Territory.

You have a strange definition of "east coast"
IMNSHO, anything south or west of Wilson's Promontory is NOT the "East Coast of Australia"
(Many would argue that Cape Howe or Rame Head is the demarcation line )

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coastline_of_Australia
The coastline of Australia comprises the coasts of mainland Australia and Tasmania
and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter...s_of_Australia
The eastern states of Australia are the states adjoining the east coast of Australia....The term usually includes the island state of Tasmania.....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia
Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia,[12] is a sovereign country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands
Longitude of St Helens on the Tassie east coast is 148.25E where as Cape York Queensland is 142.52E which puts the Tassie east coast more than 5 degrees further east than the northern point of the Australian east coast.
YMMV

Wottie, you, just like me, are an immigrant to the sovereign nation of Tasmania. Eden is indeed the southernmost good harbour on the east coast of Australia... just ask any native born Taswegian!
But those are all good spots that you mention. Right now "real" Aussies, those from the big island, can't use them due to the border being closed to "foreigners".
Oh... BTW, Recherche Bay is around 20 miles further south than Port Davey, so it is the southernmost deepwater anchorage in Tassie/Australia.
Jim
