Hello,
I will be presenting a one hour or so program on "Boating On The Cheap", or something like that on 24 May at 6:30PM at the West
marine store on 3500 Barrancas. I salvaged 13 boats after
hurricane Ivan, September 2004. I saved some, gave some away and took others to the dump.
I will talk about how to choose a
boat to do what YOU want. Don't fall in love with a pretty face, examine your intentions,
day sailing, cruising,
fishing, gunk holing, etc. Then look for the right
boat.
I will discuss:
-Where to keep it.
-Safety
-Fuel,
sails costs
-Maintenence,
DIY and when to call the Pro
-Trading up, "TwoFootItis"
-Where to buy
gear at bargain.
Old Tom, sailing since 1960, raced and cruised,
Cal 25 National Champ in 1973, taught sailing at USC, raced some more, retired and sailed away from SoCal in 1988 aboard our
Cal Cruising 46, 18 years
living aboard, 9 years cruising,
Mexico, Central and
South America, 3 years in the
Caribbean,
Bahamas many times,
Cuba,
Chesapeake Bay, etc. Crossed the Atlantic on a friends boat in 1985. Semi-swallowed the
anchor on Bayou Chico, FL with a waterfront home and
dock.
Health issues preclude any more long distance cruising, so feel I should share our tales of the JOY of cruising.
Come and share. Call me for details Tom at 850 572 1225
