Considering a fibreglass boat that has been sitting on stands for the past 5-6 years in Southern Virginia. Other than the motor, what specifically should I be concerned about due to it's not being used for such a long time?

I don't know what type of boat it is but if it's anything larger than a runabout you should be concerned with everything- all the systems, water, fuel, electrical etc. also the tanks. All the running gear. All the through hulls etc.etc. If you're serious about this boat get a survey.

Check to see if the pads that are holding it up have put dents in the hull. Same with pressure from the keel. If it has dented then it is a soft hull. BC Mike C

If it's anything more than an open daysailer where everything inside is visable to the naked eye, you need experience to judge for yourself, or a surveyor who is familiar with the make and model of the boat.

If the surveyor is not familiar with the make and model of that boat, he may be unable to do the kind of job you really need.

Someone remarked that many folks are surprised to find that boat repairs cost five times as much and take ten times as long as expected.
