Another line should be added to the poll:

"Should we close this thread?"

Search and do due diligence before posting? Ha! I didn't even get through the first page of this thread before responding.

I think of CF as more like a casual conversation than an encyclopedia. It's not a lot of good searching for stuff when half the folks on here can't spell anyways.

Re: OP etiquette: should CF be more professional?

How boring would it be to be told to go scouring through pages and pages of posts and threads to find an answer...before being allowed to answer a question? I see this tactic used in some other forums and it sounds like a really snotty thing to say...."Search the data base first, dude". "Then we will grace you with the honor of being able to ask us a question".

Half the fun is getting answers from people in somewhat real-time. If someone does not like seeing the repetition then don't come here. The other half of the fun is the social aspect. There is no social aspect to searching through a database.

In the 12 years that I have been a member, I have seen hundreds of questions repeated. Nobody is requiring you to read them.

Re: OP etiquette: should CF be more professional?

About CF's search functions....

The first option is something that is case sensitive, and requires a perfect match; whereas, the CF Custom Google Search works like a Google search, it's great for ideas and concepts, and is the one I use about 99% of the time.

Sometimes, I'd rather look up stuff first, to get data straight before I write. I might not be the only one!
