Old electronics - raymarine

I have a 1999 40' Beneteau. It has what looks like original electronics. The Autohelm works. The chart plotter RL70 kind of works, but there is no GPS signal. I replaced the dead GPS unit and it appears the antenna needs replacing. The radar works when I can set it up right. There is no depth reading on the chart plotter. There is no other readout for depth and speed. There is inside at the chart table, an ST60+ wind direction and speed, which needs calibrating.

So this is where I am at. I can't pour $10k or more in to new navigation electronics. This is the old network Seatalk, I think. I was thinking to find on ebay, a display for depth and speed. A few times last year, the depth worked on the chart plotter, but most the time it did not work. I don't know why. I have checked all the connections on the main box down below where the chart plotter plugs in and also the depth sounder. It appears, the transducer is a cartridge in the hull. When I look in ebay, I am not sure exactly what to look for in a display. I have seen some "tridata" displays for temp, depth, and speed that look like the vintage I need, but not sure. My speed thing is free and turns, but I have never seen that work.

I wish I had someone to walk me through this. It is all an unknown to me.
There are actually, 2 of those speed things on the bottom of the hull. Above in the bilge, only one has wires coming from it.

Re: Old electronics - raymarine

There are plenty of good used systems offered here and over at this sites, sister site (TrawlerForum.com).

(Just examples).

The GPS should give you Speed over Ground (SoG). The speed wheels give you Speed over Water (SoW). I don't personally find SoW that helpful. If you're working against the tide or current it shows faster than your SoG. With the current or tide, it shows slower than SoG. SoG is the real world speed for getting from A to B IMHO.
