Oh Deer!!

The following sequence was forwarded by some Deer Friends after a surprisingly successfull fishing trip in the Santa Barbara Channel the other day.

"Uh...Do you sea what I sea?"




"No, what do you sea?"

"Look a little closer! Right there!"




"Nah... We're a mile and a half off shore. That's gotta be a seal, no?"

"Uh... No, Nope... Not a Seal!!!"



"Holly Cow!!!"

"Ah, Nope, Notta Cow... Let Give'm a lift..."



"Uh..when we get back to Santa Barbara are we gonna weigh him?"

"No, I think this trip is just catch and release once we get to the beach."

"Makes Sense...But take a picture first, no one will believe us!!!"

"Okay...Say Cheese!!!"



And so they did.

Thanks Hylyte. That was funny. I know deer can swim but I don't think they can make it from SB to Santa Cruz Islands. I had a deer caught in my fence the other day and it was a pain to get him free. I can't imagine that the deer wanted to get on the boat. The deer must have been exhausted b/c it looks so docile

I saw deer crossing the bay above Hart Miller island in November 2006, Two were in the middle of the ship channel swimming to the other side east to west.

Deer used to frequently swim across Port Hacking south of Sydney That is 20 minute ferry ride

Hummm...

The sequence was sent to me in an email by a "Deer Friend" (or so I thought!) in California...I guess the joke's really on me. Never-the less, good for the boy's in the snaps eh?

The last little island you reach (forgot the name) before reaching the Eastern Shore of VA while crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel used to be full of deer. My grandfather used to pull over while crossing and point the deer out to me when I was a very young boy (great memory). He used to Capt the ferry that crossed the Chesapeake Bay before the bridge was opened and said he would see deer crossing from the island to the mainland every now and then. Not sure where they picked that one up but it wouldn't be tough to be swept off your intended path by the currents. Re -reading this story always makes me smile. Thanks.

Fisherman's Island. The deer are still there. You can see that the cedar trees have been stripped of leaves up to the level that the deer can reach.
