Watching a documenty on the South Pacific. Saw a new island trying tk form. Yikes, would hate to sail into one of those at night. Need a real time chart update I guess...

Supposedly, the danger from those things is that an undersea eruption produces a lot of gas. This is not only poor to breathe, but it can turn the sea to more foam than water. Your boat will not float on foam...
A couple of ships have been lost that way... maybe more but no one survived to report?
