Re: Ocean Crossing around the world are best in Monohull or Catamaran???
That's because the crew is working rather than sitting on one side of the boat to keep it from falling over[emoji38]

We always talk about Cats and Monohulls, but what about trimarans? are not they the best of both worlds? you get a center keel for better tracking and windward sailing, large interior, (Many cases larger than CATs, more stable than CATs or monohulls, and in my personal opinion, if designed correctly can be better looking than a CAT.
The only negative is trying to tie up in a Marina is all I can think of
A Neel comes to mind

The only ones that have enough interior room for me are plus 50ft and very expensive.

my 29 has lots of room and slept 3 in fwd cabin 6 in main salon and 2 in aft storeroom .
It was quite fast and comfortable at 12 to 15 knots. ( developed dry for in underside of wing decks and ammas) prior owner glassed it and you know what that means. ( it was not during construction) .

Apparently the Italians insisted on it.

Re: Ocean Crossing around the world are best in Monohull or Catamaran???
Winners get to call the shots so Kiwis decided on monos. Should be very interesting just like Cats have been for years now but they are promising even higher performance than the Cats on these new monos so let's just sit back and see what the fat cats (No pun intended) come up with. Kiwis have forgotten more about sailing than most others have learned so it should be exciting to watch.

The older cats that are mentioned... do t hey actually offer the advantages that are present in the newer cruising cat designs? They often seem to have low bridge deck clearance, narrow beam, less room in the house and really tight room in the hulls. We stayed aboard a Heavenly Twin for a few days once, and it was bloody tight compared to our old 36 foot mono (which was full of fibreglass grinding dust at the time). They are demonstrably pretty slow, and with their narrow beam, I wonder about stability.
I realize that folks have made good voyages in them... I just wonder if they really offer any significant advantage over a similarly priced mono? Except for smaller (but not zero) heel angles!

Depends on which model of HT Jim...The last one built had stoop through back to front and lots of storage due to it, no denying it can be snug but that is the design criteria, I like the Catalac 900 and the Prouts. Lots of room.
I actually like the Gemini layout. Narrow beam but very stable.
Slow... the HT is.

The Heavenly Twins are absolutely magnificent.. for a dwarf.. but they are stable enough I found.
Rather have a Catalac10 over a Prout.

Re: Ocean Crossing around the world are best in Monohull or Catamaran???
Well, the Zatara' Family is switching / upgrading from a great mono-hull to a catamaran for the next part of the journey. So there is something about catamarans while cruising the world...
