I was walking along the pier to my
boat this past Sunday morning and heard quite a racket going near my
boat. It was pretty windy morning (25-30 knots?) As soon as I looked down I could see my neighbors
outboard engine smashing into the pile and bracing. I had a bad experience some years ago trying to help a unoccupied boat and unappreciative owner........... and I said "never again".
I knew something was going to give sooner than later, so I climbed aboard to check/adjust the lines to keep the boat off the pier. I noticed right away that the boat had
no spring lines attached. I ended up shortening the bow lines a couple feet temporarily to keep the
engine off the pier.
I went over to the marina office to let them know what happened and they pull up a contact number that was outdated. The guy who had that slip has been gone a couple of years and is up in Boston with his boat. I am going by again this morning to add a spring line if nobody has done anything. I hope the owner doesn't think I am being nosy, but I'd hate to see a engine and transom bracket get wasted.
