New World Record Distance in 24 Hours

I very recently sailed 234Km (126NM) in a timed 24 Hour Period!


Now before you all get up in arms, about A: What a Joke and B:That's a poor effort and is a long way from a world record, you would be very wrong!


So It's not about the boat, but the Kayaker who paddled Non Stop for 24 hours along side my boat which was the support and pace vessel for this new world record, which was previously (held by a man) 227Km.


This took place between Airlie Beach and Magnetic Island in Queensland, Australia with Bonnie Hancock being the the Supreme 24 Hours Distance kayaking god.


It was though not all plain sailing, with a weed blocked kayak rudder in 20Kts of wind and trying to hold the support boat still with full sails and a large swell to fix this as quickly as possible, which was a challenge, topped by Bonnie having a major strain to her left bicep with around 8 hours to go, which she ground through and continued to the end, although when she broke the record distance and she had done it, some of the Adrenalin left her and it became apparent how bad her arm was. At the end of the 24 hours, we had to carry her off the kayak and onto the boat, she was so spent she could not walk.


So I think you all will agree that 234Km is a incredible distance in 24 Hours and a jolly good effort, to make an understatement.

Wow. What an incredible achievement (the Lagoon keeping up with Bonnie that is). Just kidding, congratulations all round. I hope the bicep heals fast and great work UFO for being a great support vessel. Doesn’t sound easy!
