New sails dilema

Hi all,

I am looking now to purchase new sails (main sail and headsail) for my Swan 391, having not looked at new sails for a while I was wondering if there is some up to date advice the community can give. The main questions I have are:

1) What is the best cut/material for optimal cruising in the Caribbean. Take into account UV.
2) Would people recommend getting a 110% or 135% Rolling Genoa. Currently have a 110 but seems a bit small in light winds. The plus side is you can keep the full sail out in stronger winds!
3) Any preferred sail loft / maker - I have contacted a few and prices and advice varies massively

Thanks all, look forward to the replies.

Re: New sails dilema

After you figure out what you want, you might check with Bacon Sails, Annapolis, MD.

They have a ton of roller furling headsails both new and used already built for your boat.

Thanks kindly, I had heard of them and had a quick look, the prices of the sails they describe as new did not seem to be much cheaper than a new one and there is the uncertainty of the cut and fit.

Will reach out to them again.

Re: New sails dilema

Check out this recent thread I started with useful info from forum members

https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f116/help-me-with-new-sails-239972.html

There’s another recent thread about new sails for a Beneteau 57 but I don’t have its link, you may be able to search it however.
