New Sails

I have started to look for new sails main and head. Seemed like no problem till I decided to get a second price from another loft. Then the confusion started. My biggest question is what fabric the lofts all seem to use a different brand like Challenge or Contender and different weights. I seem to only sail in winds 10mph and under. My sails now are 7.9 main and 6.9 Genoa and seem to heavy in light air. Looking for opinions which I know can be dangerous.

Need to know a lot more. What kind of boat? Cruising, racing, daysailing? Where? How many months out of the year? Just for starters.

Re: New Sails

In Chesapeake but have been any where from Maine to Bahamas. Anywhere from 7 months to a year. The boat is a Carter 35. Present sails are great above 10 kts.

Re: New Sails

I would call Mark @ Doyle Sails in Long Island, Huntington Station, N.Y. Long Island. Sailing is comporable to Chesapeake Bay, light to no air. Mark is very, very, helpful and will answer all your questions. I would explore the pros and cons of lighter cloth. Perhaps you can go to a lighter cloth with comporable strength and with much better shape. Give Mark a call...he will definatly help you out.
