New Mattress

My boat is a Tashiba-31 with a v-berth. I've just purchased a mattress off Amazon - it's a Zinus 10 memory foam mattress.

Will I need to put something beneath the mattress to prevent moisture and mold or is this thick enough that condensation will not be a problem?

Re: New Mattress

Built my own matress, 4 inch plus 2 inch memory foam cover, I made the cover from sunbrella. But the best thing I did was bought FROLI system. That was 11 years ago, in Florida, mostly on the hook, or mooring fields. hot hot
It's not the heat it's the humidity haha

Re: New Mattress

dmksails, we use stuff called Dry Deck under our mattress. I lived aboard out in cold, humid Seattle and the Dry Deck worked great. However, I have heard great things about the Froli system.

New Mattress

Maybe I should not be this out front, but I have bought a new mattress, an inner spring so my Froli has to go, I will be putting it on the classified section very soon. You need something to get some airflow, even grass mats work from my understanding.
However the Froli is a set of plastic springs, three stiffnesses, stiffest under your hips and shoulders. We for the last three years have gotten by with the old factory mattress with a Froli, and a Walmart memory foam topper. Actually not all that bad, factory mattress alone we bottomed out very easy and made our hip bone ache, the Froli fixed that and the memory foam topper gave it sort of a pillow top feeling. Memory foam has a tendency to be hot though, Latex is much cooler.

Is it 10 inches thick??
No of course you don't need anything under it.
I have 4 inch with 2 inch memory foam topper and its fine.

Or do you have pool parties on bed?

Re: New Mattress

Hi, dmk,

My thinking is different from Mark J's. I believe you should put something under there that will allow airflow. I think having airflow is better than what we have been doing, and is the only reliable way of keeping away mildew.
