Re: New HANSE 348..

Both the 345 and 385 were originally category A however following revisions to the way vessels are certified they were re-rated to category B a year or so ago.
The new 388 got an extra 250kg in the keel to move it back to category A but I guess a decision was made not to do the same for the 348.
Whilst I do know of a 385 that has crossed the Atlantic and Pacific, sailing from Greifswald to Sydney, it's not the boat I would choose for extended ocean passages, and the 385/8 even less so.

Re: New HANSE 348..

When my wife and I were approaching 65 we bought a new 370. Our one concession to our age was the inclusion of a powered winch. That was 2006. This summer will be our 13 season with our Hanse and we continue to love it. We cruise extensively and I regularly race her. I realize that the Hanse made today will be different from the manufacturing process under it's original owner. But, the designers remain the same and it appears that the current owners have returned quality to the brand. Some suggestions... choose the upgraded sails, add an electric winch and add the larger winch package.

Re: New HANSE 348..

Well, to think about it twice rather than a...
.
I read well on the forum "my hanse" of recurring problems if not new.
I am only in the preliminary contacts, I have a quotation for the 348,
I have the Owner's Manual, and yet to modify of a few points...
What I see is that the dealership tends to be strictly in keeping with the
options proposed on the price's list ???

Re: New HANSE 348..

I found that most factory options were not flexible. I wanted 50m chain rather than 30m but I could only have this if the chain and anchor were also upgraded to stainless steel at significant cost.
I wanted a spinnaker instead of the bundled upgrade to FCL sails (which would have been a massive mistake - the FCL sails are fantastic) but this wasn't possible.
I did get all the canvas from the UK dealer rather than taking the factory sailbag and spray hood which are reportedly of dubious quality.

Really I think most of the options make sense as it allows you to configure the boat as you wish. I took the options I couldn't fit myself (swim platform, gate in rails, armchairs with central nav table) and passed on smaller items like audio and AIS transponder that I could fit myself at lower cost.

I had repeated problems with the B&G wind transducer but this wasn't a Hanse issue and all manufacturers using B&G would have been affected by this. Similarly I understand there is currently an issue with the MDI units on Volvo engines from 2016, again not a Hanse issue.

Getting things like this resolved will be the responsibility of the dealer so do think about who you buy through.
