Smile New Boat Owner Insurance

First time boat owner, first time poster.

My partner and I have been given a 1987 65' Aluminum sailboat. The boat is located in San Diego, CA. I have 4 years of boating experience and my STCW, he 10 years and his British Captain's License. He is South African - so is the vessel. I am American, resident of Washington State.

We both have never owned a boat and are having trouble finding anyone to insure it. I'm in a bit of a rush as we're moving the boat and leaving the country for 2 months at the end of the month.

I would appreciate any insight, thanks everyone!

At this point, your best bet may be to try an insurance broker. They'll take your information and shop around with various companies to try and find a reasonable policy for you.

Any luck finding insurance? If so, who did you use? I’m in a similar situation.
