Need recommendations for survey Florida mid-Atlantic coast

Hi all

I'm looking for recommendations for someone to perform a survey on a Morgan 384 in Satellite Beach, FL.

I suppose I'm also looking for "stay away from xxx"

Any help appreciated, thanks.

You might also try over at https://www.morgan38.org/
I think a few of the members are in Florida, and might know a surveyor familiar with the Morgan 383.

We own our sixth large sailboat...have had many many surveys for purchase and insurance purposes.
The best surveyor we have used is Doug Birely in Stuart FL.

Re: Need recommendations for survey Florida mid-Atlantic coast

If you are spending a fair amount of money here is my number one suggestion from experience, knowing several good surveyors and many boat surveys: Fly a good surveyor in from another part of the country as a surveyor will never get another job from any salesman in the area if the result is not good and most depend their livelihood on getting jobs from salesman recommendations. Privately all the surveyors I know will tell you this. Also do not tell his name to anyone or let them see the name on the survey. The actual survey results can be disclosed. Make sure he puts in writing the details of what the survey will cover and be finically responsible for any and all omissions and errors in those items. Make sure you are there and record on your cell phone the entire survey and arrange that only you and the surveyor are there until the sea trial except for the haul out and return to the water. A professional surveyor will have insurance to cover this and make sure you get a copy of the policy and verify it is current.

Ed Rowe. He’s done work for me several times. Extremely knowledgeable, honest, and thorough. He will also explain things and point out what is really important.

Look him up at https://www.marinesurvey.org/surveyors/united-states/florida/vero-beach/edward-d-rowe-iii-ams/

His wife Vivian does all the scheduling and is a pleasure to work with.

Who did you end up using?
I need a surveyor for a Hunter 44 in Fort Pierce, trying to get someone knowledgeable, honest and with no conflict of interest with the seller or broker.

I ended up doing three surveys with "Ceal" Potts. I believe she's based out of Key West now. (386) 319-4848

She did a great job for me and I'm very happy with the vessel I ended up with. Ceal goes up the stick too, which is a huge plus for me.

I also used Rob Dannis to do engine surveys. 772-284-9982. Again, very satisfied. Rob saved me from buying a Hunter 420 Passage in Ft. Pierce. Rob is in Stuart.

Re: Need recommendations for survey Florida mid-Atlantic coast

Thanks so much
I hired Ed Rowe, recommended above..
Will survey on the 28th, lets see how it goes.
BTW he does not go up the mast anymore, so I ended up hiring a 3rd party to do that part of the inspection, extra $150.
