Need Assistance
Can anyone deliver me a Predator generator from harbor freight to the north shore of LI?
Both my generators are out, it’s too cold out to get them going and i can’t keep up with electrical requirements to keep the heat on. (No sun for days, days are short, sun barely cracks the horizon)
Getting into a bit of a check mate situation.
i hear the predators are ok, yes?
Not sure how to compensate for your time but i’m sure i have something you need such as boat building materials, etc. it could take you to lunch or fill your gas or something

Err, could you not have it delivered by the seller? Via courier?

it doesn’t appear so. It takes days for the thing to be delivered from the store.
Trying to figure something out. Maybe one of the car services has a delivery option these days. I don’t know. Working on it. Working all angles.

Going to replace the computer in the “working” generator in the morning. hopefully that will get one of them producing power.

Re: Need Assistance
I can't help with delivery but I can report in the Harbor Freight Predator. I've had the Honda and Predator and the Predator seems every but as good, maybe a bit better. Just as quiet, just as powerful. I wore out the Honda, it got to burning oil so bad it would only run about 2 hours before low oil shutdown. I replaced it with a Predator at 1/3 the price. The real clincher was the 2 year extended warranty. I don't usually do those but the cashier said I could bring the unit back even if there wasn't anything wrong with it and they'd give me a new one. Sure enough 23 months later they gave me a new one no questions asked. I doubt you'd get that from Honda. If I was cruising outside the US maybe I'd spring for another Honda but as long as I'm near an HF store I'll stay with them.

glad to hear it! I have heard the same thing from everyone. People say they are really reliable now. I know they didn’t start that way. But they have changed over the years.
Side story: I tried a Chinese diesel generator when they first came out. A Lombardini copy. fired it up, within five minutes it broke a rod. ha ha ha. i’m glad times have changed
good news today. the generator without the carburetor problem is running and the old/original computer seems to be working in it also for the time being. I’m able to get a little power out of it this morning. And even better, the sun is out without any clouds today. First time in a while.
Even if the computer goes haywire again soon, still expecting to get a full charge today between a little generator running this morning and all that magnificent sunshine. That gives me a lot of runway and time to figure this out. Although it’s getting pretty damn cold out there to be fiddling with bolts and electrical connectors with no gloves.
no longer an emergency/check mate situation. i was just in check i guess.
sometimes, with boats, it just seems to boil down to luck. Yesterday was bad luck. (Who expects both generators to go out at the same time? with no sun?) Today is good luck.

Fixed! spare control board cleared up the problem with stbd generator.
port one still needs a new carb but now back to 2 sources of power.
predator no longer needed

Re: Need Assistance
Glad you're seeing some light at the end of the tunnel! I got down to my third generator at the house once. Not a fun experience.
That said, Amazon probably has a small, cheap generator they could deliver in a day or two, just to see you through. That 3rd backup at the house was an old 2-stroke, 1000-Watt piece of Chinese junk someone gave me once. But it did save my skin, keeping the boiler and one sump pump running until the mains power came back. Maybe time to replace it with a Predator...

thank you! It sure was chilly this morning. Wow. I didn’t have heat last night and I didn’t have my electric blanket. One of my good Sherpa blankets molded up this summer and all of that humidity. So I was a little short on blankets.
I checked those Amazon generators, and they were not only expensive, same price as predator, but they wouldn’t come for a long long time. Delivery times were very slow. They don’t have them stocked at the Amazon warehouses.
I can’t believe that. A two-stroke! I didn’t even know they made two-stroke generators. That’s kind of a unique little item.

Honestly IMO with how hard it is to get a replacement I’d spend the few extra dollars and get a quality brand, We have a 2000w Yamaha that you can buy new for like $1200 and it starts on the first pull every single time

what do you mean how hard is it to get a replacement? and a replacement what? Parts? New generator? when the heat is off and it’s in the 20s outside? when the closest place with a new generator in stock is 15 miles away? you’re not being clear what you’re asking about being hard to do
Your Yamaha is more of a piece of trash than the Honda I had to fix. If it has a carburetor, it’s junk. That’s the general rule. If it’s fuel injected, it’s great.
and why predator? Because it works as good as your Yamaha. That’s why.
Don’t come at me with this kind of post, especially when you never read the thread

Wow that was a bit aggressive, my point was that those cheaper brands tend to have quality control issues. They are generally pretty good as long as you don’t get a lemon to start, but the chances of getting a bad one from the factory is significantly higher than the “higher” end brands. Since you are here trying to get someone to bring it out to you it means you clearly can’t just pop over and get a new one if it’s bad. So paying a little more for a higher chance of success on the first try seems reasonable. But you do you
