Need help understanding how to bleed and refill this system, any any specialized
equipment required to recharge it.
Boat is a Frers 33, and I confess to
racing it several times a week when not cruising.
I have Navtec fore & backstay adjusters, controlled from a panel at the
helm. On the panel there are two levers: one is an arrow, which when pointing forward controls forestay tension (sag in luff of headsail) and when the arrow is turned aft, it controls backstay tension.
The other handle is a
pump which is used to increase tension on the one to which the arrow points.
There is also a knob which when opened slowly allows a controlled release of tension, again on the stay indicated by the arrow lever.
The problem:
There are no apparent
leaks in the system, and when pressured up, the pressure doesn’t bleed off. But it is taling several pumps before it begins to increase the pressure. Fluid level is fine.
I am told, & it makes sense, that this is a symptom of air in the system, and I need to bleed it and refill the system.
Question: How do I do this , & is any special
equipment (pressure
pump?) required to do so?
Help from all you experienced cruisers who are solid do-it-yourselfers greatly appreciated.
