Navigation Lights on the First Spreader

Superyachts around here seem to show a rather bewildering array of navigational lights. This yacht joined our anchorage today.

However this is not a bad idea. The port and starboard navigational lights are mounted on the first spreader. This seems like a great idea combining the advantage of a high tricolour (which large yachts cannot use anyway) with low down navigational lights.

It could be an option that is worth using on our smaller yachts. Is it legal?. Why have I never seen it before?

They also have their steaming light on and a red light on top of mast.

Oh and they are at anchor and have been since lunchtime

The red light at the top of the mast is probably for airplanes.

No joke. That is one tall rig from the looks of it.

I have noticed that super yachts like to have lots of lights on, like steaming lights, spreader lights, and deck lights, at anchor. I think it makes them feel festive.

Maybe they have the same fancy nav light control panel as I have on the tug.
Some company took a simple idea such as light switch and made it so complicated, that when it goes wrong, it goes very very wrong.
We have this all singing and dancing panel. Each light has its own touch button, but, if the effort of turning on all the needed lights is too much, I can select, for example, "Underway", and all the required nav lights will come on.
Problem we had, was when at anchor, at various unpredictable times, the steaming lights would turn themselves on.

Took about a year and various replacement PCB's to get the thing sorted.
Progress
