Naked broadband plan semi-moble ?
I just got naked broadbank plan in NZ - $52/month for 100GB. Not sure how transportable it is but we have it in our van, worked OK without being in the house, took it 40km from where we registered it and parked in son's back yard, and lo, it worked there too.
Hoping it worth getting one in AU as well.
Anybody else experimented with this?
Could be it works anywhere if there is someones landline handy. Won't work on a mooring but who knows, dinghy to shore and sit near someones house????

Is it 4G wireless? If so it should work anywhere you have cellphone reception.

Yep 4G but they say it doesn't cover all 4G areas.

But to answer your question, you can get similar mobile data plans in Aus with fairly good coverage from any of the major Telcos.

Thank Stu.
Yes they use one of the main cell networks.
I was getting Telstra 16GB with 24 months time limit for AU$140 - handy but expensive per GB and no good for videos
This plan(Skinny) is prepay and has no contract so I can stop it when I change countries.

I think they all do. Isn't this just a hot spot plan with 100 gigs of data? T-mobile 'one plan' is what I use. Good for the roaming I'm doing; US, Canada Mexico. Unlimited text, talk and data, under a hundred bucks a month.

Verizon has a 100 gig plan, but it's a lot more than 52$ month.
I use a jet pack with an antenna extender, up the mast.
Works pretty well and ok up to 5 miles off shore.
( your mileage might vary )
I have a 55 ft. mast.
I have a wireless antenna up the mast also.
It works about the same distance.
Pickups up public libraries pretty well.

I'm from Aus, your deal sounds pretty amazing. AFAIK nothing like that here with special modem. Best that I know of here is more like $45 for 8Gig/Month & hotspot your Mobile, I know there is cheaper but few are on Telstra network which has huge reach and with a Blue tick phone I have had coverage out to 30 miles, without antennae.

Re: Naked broadband plan semi-moble ?
The term "naked broadband" is not used much in the US. We would call it a wireless access point (AP). It talks using cellphone protocol to the towers and provides wireless to the immediate area. In general, it provide no ability to make phone calls directly. However, if you add, for example, OOMA, you get phone ability over the internet connection that the AP supplies. The AP is a wireless router, give it security! An AP is about the size of a large deck of cards, and can be battery-powered or wall-powered.
You must have an active phone-subscription service.
The internet bandwidth provided by your AP depends on the usual suspects: close towers, cell signal strength, your plan's usage parameters.
The AP bandwidth can be pretty wimpy if you're off-shore and out-of-sight.
I have used AP's at home for years -- in particular for my mother in her senior home, whose home-wireless is useless. About $40 a month in Colorado.

I think you are right. The low cost offered in NZ may be a result of Skinny having no shops or beaurocracy. Online orders, Huawei modem, Indian call centre.

Re: Naked broadband plan semi-moble ?
I live my online life through local pre-pay 4G deals.
300GB for USD 42 / EUR 40 from my local Danish ISP 3, but it's only good in the country. Usually 10/40 up/down
10 GB I can take with me to most countries in the western world.
But they slow the speed after a month or two unless I touch and go in Denmark.
That forces me to buy local SIM's with data, and it's usually not a problem.
Don't expect speeds or prices to be competitive compared to Scandinavia and coverage can be spotty.
I have given up on guessing which countries has good deals and coverage, but expect most counties in the world to at least be on par with the US.
This is written in Piraeus, Greece on a 9GB for EUR 10 street deal. Coverage has been excellent in all anchorages and most of the sailing from Rhodes to Athens.
Comparable to sailing the Windward's.
Shop around for start-up or other offers and remember to bring you passport and the address of the marina.

Re: Naked broadband plan semi-moble ?
When in Greece I use Cosmote prepaid
5 days, 2GB, 10€,
15 days, 3GB, 18€,
30 days, 5GB, 30€,
good coverage, just about ok for YouTube videos etc.
Junk Viking, yours sounds better. Who is it with? Thanks
Richard

Vodafone International : 9GB for EUR 10
But it's a street deal, so pick it up at the local rail station or pedestrian street.
